Relationship with Djibouti

The Embassy conducts the full range of political, commercial, consular and visa duties towards Djibouti.

 

The British Embassy in Addis Ababa has responsibility for the UK's bilateral relations with the Republic of Djibouti. The Embassy conducts the full range of political, commercial, consular and visa duties towards Djibouti. It does so with the assistance of an Honorary Consul living in Djibouti and a Consular Assistant, who together man the British Consulate there.The British Ambassador in Addis and some of his staff are accredited to Djibouti and travel there regularly. The Embassy has been strengthening its relations with Djibouti in recent years. It now has a fund for small projects in Djibouti and can offer a scholarship for higher education in the UK under the Chevening Scholarship scheme, for a Djiboutian national. In the past year, the fund has helped establish an English language learning centre in Djibouti, a library reading room and conservation training. The Embassy has also observed the Queen’s Birthday in Djibouti, aboard a visiting British Naval vessel.
